Description:
Ever wonder what your play therapy theoretical orientation is? Did you know that play therapy is not actually a theory? Just as we all have various individual personalities, we all have a personality that shows up in the playroom. This workshop is designed to provide workshop participants an introduction to the following historically significant play therapy theories: Adlerian Play Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Play Therapy, Developmental Play Therapy, and Gestalt Play Therapy. Who is ready to match their personality with their play therapy theory?
Objectives:
- Participants of this workshop will review and discuss Schaefer and Drewes Therapeutic Powers of Play in relation to seminal theories.
- Participants of this workshop will identify Personality Priorities in Adlerian Play Therapy, assess their importance within this theory and demonstrate interventions to assess these in the playroom.
- Participants of this workshop will identify Goals of Misbehavior in Adlerian Play Therapy, assess their importance within this theory and demonstrate interventions to assess these in the playroom.
- Participants of this workshop will identify the Crucial C’s in Adlerian Play Therapy, assess their importance within this theory and demonstrate interventions to assess these in the playroom.
- Participants of this workshop examine and discuss toy selection, arrangement, and categories that identify an Adlerian playroom and assess their own playroom by creating a personalized toy inventory.
- Participants of this workshop will examine and discuss Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy’s (CBPT) tenets, goals, treatment approach and materials utilized. Participants will create and demonstrate hands-on CBPT interventions.
- Participants of this workshop will experience the power of touch of Developmental Play Therapy by experientially examining the principals of this play therapy theory.
- Participants of this workshop will examine the basic tenets of Gestalt Play Therapy as they experience its therapeutic benefits through hands-on play therapy interventions.
