The Theory and Practice of Clinical and Play Therapy Supervision – Live Webinar/Kansas City
Description:
In this workshop, participants will examine supervision theories that can be applied when providing supervision for individuals seeking either clinical licensure and/or play therapy credentials who are providing child and/or play therapy. Participants will analyze strategies and considerations when utilizing experiential art techniques as a supervision tool, will demonstrate supervision practice skills and examine the Supervisor Complexity Model as they consider the typical development of supervision skills and competency applied when providing supervision.
Workshop Objectives:
- Participants will analyze the definition, functions and history of clinical and play therapy supervision.
- Participants will examine Psychotherapy-Based models of supervision that can be applied when providing supervision for individuals seeking either clinical licensure and/or play therapy credentials who are providing child and/or play therapy.
- Participants will examine the function and benefits of utilizing expressive art techniques while learning to apply the techniques in an ethical way to their supervisees’ developmental level when providing supervision for individuals seeking either clinical licensure and/or play therapy credentials who are providing child and/or play therapy.
- Participants will analyze the Developmental and Process models of supervision that can be applied when providing supervision for individuals seeking either clinical licensure and/or play therapy credentials who are providing child and/or play therapy.
- Participants will compile a variety of supervision interventions to be utilized to facilitate a supervisee’s self-awareness and insight, as well as resolve reluctance and resistance as it relates to their clinical and play therapy practice. Special consideration will be given to explore self-awareness and resistance specific to the use of touch in child/play therapy, engaging with parents of child clients and responding to the reactions of child clients.
- Participants will examine the Supervisor Complexity Model as a developmental theory to assist in the knowledge of typical development of supervision skills and competency applied when providing supervision for individuals seeking either clinical licensure and/or play therapy credentials who are providing child and/or play therapy.

Workshop Cancellation:
- Cancellation requests should be submitted by email to Heartlandpti@gmail.com no later than 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled workshop date in order to receive a full refund of the paid workshop fee. Cancellation and/or rescheduled requests that are submitted after 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled workshop date will result in a refund of the paid workshop fee – with the exception of a $25 administrative fee for a half-day workshop, a $50 administrative fee for a full-day workshop a $75 administrative fee for 2-day workshop.
- Heartland Play reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Heartland Play will email workshop students at least 5 calendar days in advance of the scheduled workshop date to notify students of the cancellation. Notice will be provided with the option to reschedule for a future course date or to receive a full refund of paid workshop fees.
- Heartland Play reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to inclement weather, instructor illness or instructor family emergency. If a workshop is canceled, students will be notified via e-mail prior to the workshop start time. Heartland Play will notify the students of a reschedule date for the workshop within 10 calendar days of the cancelled workshop. Notice will be provided with the option to reschedule for the future course date or to receive a full refund of the paid workshop fee.
