Description:
This workshop examines co-regulation as a foundational component of emotional and behavioral regulation in children with applications across caregiving, education and therapy settings.
Objectives:
- Define co-regulation and differentiate it from self-regulation and behavior management, using examples from playrooms and play-based interaction with children and caregivers.
- Describe the neurobiological and relational mechanisms that support co-regulation, including safety, connection and nervous system states as they emerge within play and playroom experiences.
- Apply developmentally appropriate, play-informed co-regulation strategies, including caregiver participation and adult self-regulation within play, the playroom and everyday child-caregiver interactions.
