Diving Deeper: An In-Depth Approach to using Adlerian Sandtray Play Therapy with Traumatized Populations
Description:
This interactive and engaging class will deepen your understanding of how to apply Adlerian concepts, skills, and techniques to the practice of sandtray play therapy with clients who have experienced grief/and or trauma. You will hone your ability to use sandtrays to (a) build a relationship with clients; (b) explore clients’ lifestyle patterns; (c) help clients gain insight into their patterns; and (d) make changes in their thoughts, feelings, attitudes, behaviors, and relationships. You will strengthen your ability to conceptualize and treatment plan based on the content and process of your clients’ sandtrays, and you will consolidate your ability to use sandtray as a vehicle for consulting with caregivers. Built into this workshop are opportunities for you to do personal sandtrays, serve as a witness and facilitator with a partner’s sandtrays, and role play as client’s for one another. By the end of this class, you will have sharpened your sandtray play therapy proficiency, and you will have practical tools for using your own personal trays outside class for self-supervision, personal growth, and structuring sessions to help your clients explore and process their trauma and well as increase resiliency.
Workshop Objectives:
1. Participants of this workshop will explain the rationale for using sandtray play therapy when working with clients who have experienced trauma and/or loss.
2. Participants of this workshop will describe two methods for using the sandtray play therapy process to build relationships with clients and to explore the client’s unique lifestyle and lifestyle elements.
3. Participants of this workshop will describe the rationale for creating sandtrays for clients and/or co-creating sandtrays with clients.
4. Participants of this workshop will describe the process of using sandtray play therapy with clients to develop rituals to process past trauma.
5. Participants of this workshop will use sandtray play therapy to process their own vicarious trauma from working with clients who have experienced trauma and loss.
6. Participants of this workshop will explain how to use sandtray play therapy to delve into mastery of the Crucial Cs (Connect, Courage, Capable, and Count).

Workshop Cancellation:
- Cancellation requests should be submitted by email to Heartlandpti@gmail.com no later than 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled workshop date in order to receive a full refund of the paid workshop fee. Cancellation and/or rescheduled requests that are submitted after 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled workshop date will result in a refund of the paid workshop fee – with the exception of a $25 administrative fee for a half-day workshop, a $50 administrative fee for a full-day workshop a $75 administrative fee for 2-day workshop.
- Heartland Play reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Heartland Play will email workshop students at least 5 calendar days in advance of the scheduled workshop date to notify students of the cancellation. Notice will be provided with the option to reschedule for a future course date or to receive a full refund of paid workshop fees.
- Heartland Play reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to inclement weather, instructor illness or instructor family emergency. If a workshop is canceled, students will be notified via e-mail prior to the workshop start time. Heartland Play will notify the students of a reschedule date for the workshop within 10 calendar days of the cancelled workshop. Notice will be provided with the option to reschedule for the future course date or to receive a full refund of the paid workshop fee.
