Description:

In this advanced workshop, participants will examine variations to the traditional Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) model through a play therapy lens. Participants will strengthen their knowledge of each of the 10-session models through both big and small group discussion, video and case examples, and experiential play therapy activities. Emphasis will be placed on integrating play-based interventions to support diverse family dynamics, with opportunities for participants to demonstrate and practice multiple experiential strategies applicable to a wide variety of client family systems.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Examine the cultural implications of the CPRT model through a play therapy lens and explore play-based interventions when working with racially diverse clients.
  2. Examine and reflect on personal cultural humility and its implications while implementing the CPRT model through play therapy with clients from diverse backgrounds that differ from their own.
  3. Explore modifications and demonstrate play therapy–based strategies for using the CPRT model with toddlers.
  4. Explore modifications and demonstrate play therapy–based strategies for using the CPRT model with pre-adolescents.
  5. Explore modifications and demonstrate play therapy–informed strategies for using the CPRT model with adopted families.
