Amber Wood, LPC, RPT™
Amber has been a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri since June 2019 and a Registered Play Therapist since December 2019. She attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, obtaining her master’s degree in counseling in 2014. Shortly after obtaining her post-graduate degree, Amber worked for 10 1/2 years in Community Mental Health where she worked in various positions including Clinical Coordinator to their Children’s Rehabilitation Day Treatment and after school Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program, Clinical Supervisor for Community Support Specialists in Children and Youth Services department, Mental Health Therapist, and Intake Clinician. Amber now owns her own private practice entitled Strength to Grow Counseling.
Amber has training in Play Therapy, Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT), Theraplay, Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Integrative Treatment of Complex Trauma (ITCT). Amber has specialized training for working with children and adults related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, sleep issues, LGBTQIA+ population, and grief.
In the professional field, Amber has a passion for advocating for children in the foster system, working with individuals struggling with religious trauma, working with adolescents and adults in the LGBTQIA+ Community, and providing a safe environment for all she works with.
In her personal time, Amber enjoys spending time with her chosen family, reading, spending time with her fur babies, and doing life with her partner.
