Screen Time: Delivering Effective Play Therapy Through Telemental Health – Live Webinar
Description:
We are fully immersed in the digital age of play therapy—whether we’re ready for it or not. More and more children, adolescents, and families are requesting (and sometimes requiring) mental health services via telemental health platforms. As play therapists, it’s essential to meet this growing need with both confidence and competence. This live webinar is designed to equip play therapists with the practical skills, ethical considerations, and clinical insights needed to provide effective play therapy in the virtual space. Participants will explore how to engage child clients creatively and therapeutically through online platforms while still meeting treatment goals and maintaining professional self-care. Whether you’re new to telemental health or looking to sharpen your skills, this training will provide actionable tools and guidance to navigate virtual play therapy with clarity and confidence.
Workshop Objectives:
- Examine ethical considerations and potential barriers in telemental health play therapy, including the use of HIPAA-compliant platforms and obtaining appropriate consents.
- Demonstrate strategies to address resistance and engagement challenges with child clients in telemental health, while building rapport and therapeutic connection through the screen.
- Explore a variety of play therapy interventions and how to effectively adapt them for use in telemental health settings.
- Identify and apply strategies for effectively engaging families in telemental health sessions, with a focus on maintaining participation from all members.
- Identify risk factors related to suicidal child clients and develop a suicide response protocol, including conducting suicide risk assessments, to enhance safety and clinical effectiveness in a virtual setting.
- Demonstrate strategies for maintaining self-care and preventing burnout while providing telemental health services to children and adolescents.
