Integrating Mindfulness into Play Therapy – Kansas City
Description:
Mindfulness—the quality of attention that combines full awareness with acceptance of each moment, just as it is—is gaining broad acceptance among mental health professionals as an adjunct to treatment as well as parents and educators as a way to help children reduce unwanted behaviors at home and in the classroom.
In a simple and accessible way, this workshop will describe mindfulness and how mindfulness-based practices can help children focus, which in turns helps them to quiet their minds and bodies, see and accept the present moment, connect with others, and care about themselves and others.
During this workshop you will learn ways to incorporate mindfulness practices into your home, school and/or therapeutic setting. Activities presented will work with children, teens, and families.
Workshop Objectives:
-
Understand and explain mindfulness concepts and the positive impact they can have for children, their caregivers, students, and school administration.
- Experience the calming effects of mindfulness through experiential practice.
- Understand the relationship of personal mindfulness practice with successful integration of mindfulness into play therapy with the client.
- Demonstrate mindfulness practices to children, teens, and groups that will reduce the severity and frequency of emotions that are difficult to manage.
