Play Therapy with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Description:
This workshop will review the signs, symptoms and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Participants will learn Play Therapy activities that promote social skills, sensory integration
and positive reinforcement for those with spectrum disorders.
Objectives:
- Participants will learn about the history and progression of the autism spectrum diagnosis and recognize the different categories of spectrum disorders prior to 2013 and now defined by the DSM-5.
- Participants will be a able to describe signs and symptoms of ASD, along with co-occurring and other similar diagnoses.
- Participants will learn about assessments that are used to diagnose ASD and will learn to identify, discuss and view examples of research based therapies within spectrum disorders.
- Participants will learn and practice play therapy activities to utilize in their work with individuals diagnosed with ASD.
