Dave Salvatierra, MA, LPC, NCC, RPT-S

Education: Dave obtained his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Truman State University, his Master’s degree in Counseling from Truman State University and his Play Therapy Certification from the KC Play Therapy Institute.  Dave is currently enrolled in the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision program at the University of St. Louis (UMSL).

Experience: Dave’s clinical and play therapy experiences have taken place in two locations. His initial experience in counseling started at a non-for profit organization in St. Charles, Missouri called Youth In Need. There he received his licensure supervision from Dr. Bob Bertolino as well as education in strengths based philosophy. His work there involved work with various issues including physical and sexual abuse, neglect, anxiety, depression, parenting skills, self-harm, suicidal ideation, low academic performance and family conflict. These issues were focused on through the use of individual and family therapy as well as individual and family play therapy and within the context of upper and lower socioeconomic status, Caucasian, Black and Hispanic families.
After Youth In Need, he transitioned to the Wentzville School District where he worked with at risk students who exhibited behaviors significantly impacting their education or the education of other students. His work with these students included individual counseling and home visits as well as consultation with teachers and support for the 504 and IEP processes. The majority of this work focused on issues relating to severe trauma such as physical and sexual abuse as well as neglect.

Approach to Supervision: Dave utilizes a developmentally and relationally based approach to supervision.
